A NEWCASTLE RE-THINK?

With the last set of premiership fixtures upon us, few would have expected so see Alan Pardew’s Newcastle side in the battle for champions league qualification, yet should results go their way they could be lining up against the giants of European football once again after a 10 year absence from the competition.

It would be fair to say that the magpie’s success this season has been unexpected. After the summer sales of Kevin Nolan, Joey Barton, Jose Enrique and of course Andy Carroll, It looked like Newcastle may struggle. Despite this exodus, the clubs transfer policy led by chief scout Graham Carr has been a resounding success, as the introduction of key players such as Cabaye, Ba and January star signing Demba Cisse has seen the club competing at the top end of the table.

The influx of new players has clearly been a key factor, but also the careful managerial hand of Alan Pardew has done much to stabilise the club. Despite joining in controversial circumstances with the ousting of fan favourite Chris Houghton, Pardew has won over the Geordie hordes and with a long term contract in place for him and his star players, this has finally given the magpies the much needed security it needs.  When looking at the factors which have affected the clubs success this year it is hard to not praise Mike Ashley. Although he remains an unpopular figure on Tyneside, much of his good work has been vital in the clubs amazing rise to the top 5 of the premier league.

Not only has Ashley poured in millions of his own money to make the club financially sound and to secure transfers, his policy to sign younger exciting players and placing them on longer contracts and in getting in a top quality manger also on a long contract means he has done much to bring the stability the club has desperately needed over the years.   Perhaps the Newcastle faithful need to rethink their feelings when it comes to their chairman??

NEYMAR PIPS ROBINHO

AC Milan striker Robinho has been regarded as the most prolific goal scorer for Brazilian club Santos, but that has changed after Brazilian sensation Neymar scored his 95th goal for Santos in the 5-0 demolition of Paulista.

Neymar is regarded to be on par with the AC Milan striker Robinho, who was the last great player for Santos. Many regarded Robinho to be the next Pele in very much the same way Neymar has been thought of today. Neymar is expected to make the much anticipated move to a European club after the end of the 2014 FIFA World Cup unlike Robinho who came to Europe much earlier.

Santos moved to the fourth position in the table after the 5-0 win over Paulista courtesy of the hat trick from Neymar. It is thought that the man could fetch around £ 45 million in transfer fees when they eventually decides to move to Europe due to the immense talent he possesses.

Many also regard him to be on par with the current great player – Lionel Messi. Only four players are ahead of Neymar in the all-time Brazilian scoring list after the retirement of Pele. If he continues to stay in Brazil until the end of 2014, it is very conceivable that Neymar could go top of the Brazilian scoring charts by then.

“I do not play to overtake anyone, just to help Santos. Robinho is my idol, you [journalists] know that, the idol is always at the top,” Neymar said after the match. It is highly likely that Neymar will be around in Brazil long enough to beat the record set by Pele. Pele has an astonishing 643 goals for Santos in the 1033 matches he has played for the club. The next target for Neymar will be the 101 goals scored by Juary.

ROBINHO RULES OUT ARSENAL COMEBACK

Current AC Milan and former Manchester city striker Robinho has said that Arsenal can easily forget about creating a miracle in the second leg of the Champions League tie against AC Milan.

AC Milan come into the second leg of the last 16 stage of the Champions League knowing that they have already placed one foot on the quarter-finals after their impressive 4-0 win over Arsenal at the San Siro. No team in the Champions League has managed to overturn a 4-0 deficit from the first leg, and Robinho is of the belief that Arsenal will not be the first team to do so.

Robinho seems to have found a proper home in the form of AC Milan after being unhappy at his previous two clubs in the form of Real Madrid and Manchester City. He was vital in the 4-0 win over Arsenal in the first leg. He is once again expected to be a crucial part of the team in the second leg as well. Only Spanish club Deportivo la Coruna have created this sort of magic in the Champions League a few seasons ago. However, they were coming back from being three goals down in the tie, while Arsenal will be attempting to get back four goals.

“At City, I never had much luck but I’ve shown what I can do with Milan and I’m determined for another good day. Arsenal have improved since we beat them but it’s almost impossible for them to turn this tie around. We were superior in the San Siro — 4-0 was a poor return. Robin van Persie is a great forward but he couldn’t influence things,” AC Milan striker Robinho. His huge influence on the first leg came in the form of two goals, which now count for a lot as the second leg comes closer.
