BRAZIL PLAYERS MAKE DECISION ON TOURNAMENT

Brazilian players have decided to honour the upcoming 2021 Copa America tournament despite their concerns over the late decision to host the tournament in Brazil.

Paris Saint Germain (PSG) star Neymar and his Brazilian teammates had used social media to convey their position on the hosting of the Copa America tournament in Brazil after Argentina and Colombia were dropped as joint hosts.

South American body, CONMEBOL, had considered other options like the United States of America (USA) and Chile before deciding to name Brazil as hosts. Neymar and his colleagues don’t want to make the situation a political one but they say they are unsatisfied that CONMEBOL decided to host the Copa America tournament in their country.

The players’ post read that the Copa America hosting process has been an inadequate one according to recent facts and that based on humanitarian and professional reasons they are not satisfied with the way the Copa America tournament has been handled by CONMEBOL officials.

2021 Copa America tournament hosts Brazil have a high Covid-19 figure with more than 475,000 deaths caused by it but Neymar and the others players didn’t mention the virus in their post. According to the various reports from the local media, the Brazilian players decided to voice their concerns after they were not consulted before the decision to host the tournament in Brazil was made.

Neymar and his colleagues said they needed to voice their concerns to the Brazilian Soccer Federation (CBF) president RogerioCaboclo was suspended from office earlier this week over a sexual harassment case. The ethics committee of the CBF will decide whether or not to extend the suspension after its duration of 30 days has ended.

The decision to play at the Copa America tournament was revealed by the Brazilian players shortly after the 2-0 away win over Paraguay thanks to the goals from Neymar and Lucas Paqueta.
