Paris Saint-Germain confirm long-term injury absence for Neymar

French giants Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Neymar would be sidelined for at least 10 weeks after suffering another metatarsal fracture. The Brazil international suffered a similar injury last term which ended his campaign, but Les Parisiens are confident that he would return before the season close this time around.

“After consultation with world-renowned medical experts, the decision has been made for Neymar to receive treatment for his latest metatarsal injury. The player has agreed to undergo such procedures and is now expected to be fit again in ten weeks. Paris Saint-Germain wishes to show Neymar the strongest support to overcome this injury, with the courage and determination he has always shown.” the club explained in an official statement.

Neymar has enjoyed another top season with the French champions and his absence in the frontline should be felt. Nonetheless, manager Thomas Tuchel has the likes of Julian Draxler and Angel di Maria to cover up the absence while the club could pursue another top-class recruit before the close of the winter transfer window.

Meanwhile, Les Parisiens have pretty much cruised through the league campaign and they are currently holding a 13-point advantage at the top with two games played less than second-placed Lille. As such, they have the luxury to rest key players to enhance their Champions League prospects but first, they need to surpass the round of 16 stage which has proved their downfall in the past two seasons.

Paris Saint-Germain are scheduled to come against Manchester United across two legs between February and March and the games should be interesting, given the latter have made a stunning resurgence under caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Mancunian giants are unbeaten in the nine matches since Ole took charge of the club. Out of those, they have secured eight wins and a solitary stalemate.
